Affordable Care Act

September 27, 2017: Obama Remains the Law of the Land — For Now

After several attempts the Congress has postponed a new vote on a “Repeal and Replace” law.  That means that Obamacare remains the law of the land.  Because insurance companies are still unsure of how insurance will be legislated, rates may go up this year.  Stay tuned for more…

We are undergoing massive changes in our health care system.

Doctors are merging with and becoming employees of hospitals in  Accountable Care Organizations.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has created an Independent Payment Advisory Board designed to monitor and slow growth of healthcare spending.

Many discussions are being held on expanding and shrinking Medicaid.

How does this affect your business?

Depending on your size, and your current benefit status, you may or may not incur a fine.

At the least, there will be additional paperwork filing on your employee’s behalf.

How does this affect you as an individual?

Do you currently have health insurance?

If you don’t will you have to pay a fine?

Or will you actually get a tax credit to help pay for your premiums?

If you haven’t been able to get health insurance, are there plans to cover you now?

If so, can you get it privately, or do you have to go to the state marketplace formerly known as the exchange?

Do you work for an employer who may need to alter benefits to comply with the changes  or pay a fine in a few years because he or she  provides what are known as “Cadillac benefits”?

These are questions for which we all will need answers as we begin the final phase of the ACA on January 1, 2014.

(By the way, open enrollment for the exchanges begins on October 1, 2013)

At Small Business Insurance Solutions we keep up daily with changes and trends on this “final rulings as we go” legislation.
